Hot Springs: Practicalities
Most places of interest are within walking distance of the town's central accommodation, and local buses provide a reasonable hourly service to most parts of the city. Bikes can be rented from Parkside Cycles, 719 Whittington Ave (tel 501/623-6188).Though rates can rise by up to 25 percent in the long high season (Feb-Nov), luxury accommodation is surprisingly inexpensive. Dominating the town center, the elegant twin-towered Arlington Resort/Spa at 239 Central Ave is where Capone stayed when in town - and where President Clinton attended his Junior and Senior proms (tel 501/623-7771, fax 501/623-2243, ; $75-100/$100-130; bath and massage $45). The Margarete Motel , 217 Fountain St (tel 501/623-1192, fax 501/624-6043; $35-50), is one of several neighboring budget motels. The nearest place to camp is Gulpha Gorge Campground ($10; tel 501/624-3383), in the national park, two miles out on Hwy-70 B, off Hwy-70 E.
Hidden among the usual family restaurants is the breakfast only Pancake Shop , 216 Central Ave (tel 501/624-5720), whose stuffed pancakes make a filling start to the day. Other renowned eateries are McClard's Bar-B-Q , 505 Albert Pike (tel 501/624-9586 or 623-9665), and Coy's Steak and Seafood , 300 Coy St (tel 501/321-1414).
