Hotel Features. Opened in 1931, the Hotel San Carlos - Downtown Convention Center is the only historic boutique hotel in the Phoenix area. Lobby décor preserves the hotel's historic past with polished wood floors, chandeliers and floor-to-ceiling mirrors. Street-front shopping directly outside the lobby includes a men's apparel shop, barber shop, gift shop and shoeshine/repair shop.
