Fast food and casino all-you-can-eat buffets are standard in Southshore. Tahoe City has a better range of moderately priced restaurants as well as a couple of good bars, all within a few minutes of each other.Lakehouse Pizza 120 Grove St, Tahoe City tel 530/583-2222. Tahoe's best place for pizza is also a popular spot for cocktails on the lake at sundown.
Pierce Street Annex in the back of the Lighthouse Center, Tahoe City tel 530/583-5800. The place for drinking and dancing on the Northshore.
Red Hut Waffle Shop 2749 Lake Tahoe Blvd, South Lake Tahoe tel 530/541-9024. Ever-popular coffee shop, justifiably crowded early winter mornings with carbo-loading skiers.
River Ranch Hwy-89 and Alpine Meadows Rd, Tahoe City tel 530/583-4264 or 1-800/535-9900. Historic lodge on the Truckee River with excellent New American cuisine served in a relaxed, comforting atmosphere.
Rosie's Café 571 North Lake Blvd, Tahoe City tel 530/583-8504. Cozy restaurant with a vaulted ceiling and fireplace serving delicious grilled meats, fresh sandwiches and filling breakfasts.
Sprouts 3123 Lake Tahoe Blvd near Alameda Ave, South Lake Tahoe tel 530/541-6969. Almost, but not completely, vegetarian, with good organic sandwiches, burritos and smoothies.
Sunnyside Restaurant and Lodge 1850 West Lake Blvd, near Tahoe City tel 530/583-7200. One of the most popular places to have cocktails at sunset on the deck overlooking the lake.
Tahoe Restaurant & Bäckerei Hwy-89, 1/2 mile south of Hwy-28, Tahoe City tel 530/583-1377. Family-style bakery and restaurant popular with locals.
Taj Mahal 3838 Lake Tahoe Blvd in the Quality Inn , South Lake Tahoe tel 530/541-6495. Basic Indian fare with a daily 11-course lunch buffet.
Tep's Villa Roma 3450 Hwy-50, South Lake Tahoe tel 530/541-8227. Longstanding southshore institution serves large portions of hearty Italian food.
