Location. Resembling a pagoda against the California sky, the Miyako Hotel/Hotel Kabuki, an chor in the "Little Osaka" neighborhood of San Francisco, Calif., is surrounded by dozens of sushi bars and shops. St. Mary's Cathedral is two blocks from the hotel, and within two miles are Nob Hill, Chinatown, the Moscone Convention Center and Union Square. Hotel Features. Dot Restaurant presents a limited dinner menu and American and Japanese-style breakfasts. Dot Bar serves beverages through late evenings. Conference rooms and a business center are provided, as is complimentary high-speed wired and wireless Internet access. The Miyako Hotel's parking lot is disguised as a rock garden, with bonsai-trimmed pines and a cobblestone driveway. Rock-lined gardens with koi ponds provide meditative retreats. The lobby displays large gold-trimmed platters that illustrate Japanese landscapes, based on classic Hiroshige prints. Amenities include a patio and a fitness center with free weights, weight training and cardiovascular equipment.

Guestrooms. Exuding an Asian Pacific aesthetic, the 218 guestrooms boast dark wooden treatments, Japanese artwork and balanced interior designs. Windows are covered by hand-painted shoji panels and sliding rice-paper screens. Bathrooms feature either American-style shower/bathtub combinations or deep Japanese soaking tubs. Rooms include cable television and complimentary high-speed Internet access. Coffeemakers and refrigerators are available upon request. Pets are permitted.

Expert Tip. What began as a dance hall and later became a roller rink is now the historic Fillmore, which hosts many of the world's most recognized names in live music. The Fillmore is within four blocks of the Miyako Hotel/Hotel Kabuki.
