Originally called the "Hilton-by-the-sea," this Spanish Colonial Revival building was designed by George M. Thomas Studios in 1931. The property formerly served as winter housing for university students and was rented to tourists during summer months. Acquired by private owners in 1981, the inn was opened to the public in 1982.

The Villa Rosa offers 18 individually decorated guestrooms, each boasting a spectacular view of either the ocean, harbor, mountains or a beautiful garden courtyard. Amenities include Spanish Colonial- style furnishings and turndown service with chocolates. Deluxe guestrooms feature fireplaces, and all rooms are non-smoking. A cozy spa and pool are nestled in the walled-in courtyard, promising privacy and relaxation, and massages are available.
