The trip to Durango is worth the drive for the The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, which takes visitors on an authentic locomotive ride through the Animas River Gorge canyons and stops in the old mining town of Silverton. Whitewater rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, mountain biking, horseback riding and backpacking are activities available nearby.
