Kahului and Wailuku: Eating

While both Kahului and Wailuku hold a handful of good-value restaurants , neither has anything that could be considered fine dining.

Kakaako Kitchen Kaahumanu Mall, Kahului tel 808/893-0366. High-quality Hawaiian-style fast-food diner, where pretty much everything, at lunch and dinner alike, costs $6-9, with daily specials such as pot roast or seafood marinara.

Maui Coffee Roasters 444 Hana Hwy, Kahului tel 808/877-2877. Relaxed espresso bar serving good breakfasts, lunch specials and, of course, coffees.

Saeng's 2119 Vineyard St tel 808/244-1567. Pleasant, plant-filled restaurant, serving top-quality Thai food at bargain prices (entrees come in well under $20).
