Vrooman Mansion

Location. The Vrooman Mansion is located on one acre in a park-like setting in Bloomington, Ill. The mansion is within one mile of the David Davis Mansion Museum and the Bloomington City Swimming Pools. The Miller Park Zoo is less than two miles away.
Features. This Italianate-style home was built in 1869, and served as home to the Vroomans, a family of European aristocrats. Remnants of the nobility that formerly inhabited the Vrooman Mansion are reflected in the family crests carved into the woodwork around the fireplace and in the stained-glass and leaded-glass windows gracing the two-story lobby. Full, complimentary breakfasts are served each morning on the side porch or in the dining room. Non-alcoholic beverages are also provided. The mansion's parlor features a hand painted ceiling and the home's original hand-crafted dining table. Pets are not allowed.

Guestrooms. Three of the five guestrooms at the Vrooman Mansion feature private or semi-private bathrooms. All guestrooms showcase hardwood floors covered with intricate rugs and décor reminiscent of the aristocratic family that once resided in the mansion. The Master's Chamber features an original bathtub, antique bed, marble-top dresser and nightstand and a fireplace. The Rose Suite features the original claw-foot tub, and offers views of the east lawn and another historic home. Letitia's Room and the Carl Vrooman Suite feature antique brass beds. The Carl Vrooman Suite offers a slipper tub and an adjoining sitting room with a window seat overlooking the Lincoln Oak Memorial.

Expert Tip. Eleanor Roosevelt once dined with the Vrooman family at the mansion's handcrafted dining table.
