Most of Dodge City's motels are strung out roughly a mile west of downtown along US-50, still known here as Wyatt Earp Boulevard. The Astro at no. 2200 (tel 620/227-8146; $35-50) is inexpensive but a little noisy, and offers free rides to the train and bus stations; the Dodge House at no. 2408 (tel 620/225-9900; $50-130) has a reliable restaurant. The Econo Lodge at no. 1610 has an indoor pool and sauna area (tel 620/225-0231; $35-75). Camping is an option even for the car-less: the lakeside Water Sports Campground Recreation , 500 Cherry St (tel 620/225-8004; $6 tent sites), lies ten blocks south of Front Street. If you feel like bustin' your own bronco, head for the Marchel Ranch , 10873 W Hwy-50 (tel 620/227-7307 or 877/631-6196, ), a small ranch offering horse rides, chuckwagon dinners and cozy rooms.
As for food , Café at the Plaza , 100 Military Ave (tel 620/227-6151), doesn't have much in the way of atmosphere, but the roast beef sandwiches and soups are pretty good and reasonably priced. Peppercorns , out near the motels at 1301 W Wyatt Earp Blvd (tel 620/225-2335), is a conventional highway steakhouse with meals for about $13. -- location id = 42734 -->
