Detroit: Sport

Detroit is one of the few cities with franchises competing at the highest level in all four major team sports. The toast of the local fans are the 1997 and 1998 hockey champions Red Wings, who entertain at the downtown Joe Louis Arena (tel 313/983-6859 ). Tickets are virtually impossible to get, but plenty of bars put on promotions for games. Baseball 's Tigers (tel 313/962-4000, ) said their goodbyes to venerable Tiger Stadium at Michigan and Trumbull, and moved east to snazzy Comerica Park in 2000. In 2002, they were joined by the football -playing Lions (tel 248/335-4131, ), who moved into a $225-million domed venue next door. Basketball 's Pistons (tel 248/377-0100, ) are based 25 miles north in the Pontiac Silverdome and Palace of Auburn Hills.
