Jackson: Practicalities
Greyhound buses arrive at 201 S Jefferson St, while Amtrak is at 300 W Capitol St. JATRAN runs a reasonable in-town bus service until 6pm (75ยข flat fare). The main visitor center is at 921 N President St (Mon-Fri 8.30am-5pm; tel 601/960-1891 or 1-800/354-7695, ).There are central rooms a few blocks west of the State Capitol at the Holiday Inn Express , 310 Greymont Ave (tel 601/948-4466, fax 601/352-9368; $75-100), or the Hampton Inn , 320 Greymont Ave (tel 601/352-1700; $100-130). Downtown Jackson more or less closes down at 6pm, with the exception of Hal & Mal's Restaurant & Brewery , at 200 S Commerce St (closed Sun; tel 601/948-0888), which specializes in New Orleans cuisine and puts on live bands throughout the week. Out in the suburbs, Poet's , 1855 Lakeland Drive (closed Sun; tel 601/982-9711), does great things with redfish and has live music as well.
