Butte: Practicalities
Greyhound and Intermountain Transit buses drop off downtown at 101 E Front St. From June to September, ninety-minute trolley tours of town (11am, 1.30pm, 3.30pm; $6) leave from the Chamber of Commerce , 1000 George St (May-Aug daily 8am-8pm; Sept & Oct daily 8am-5pm; Oct-May Mon-Fri 9am-5pm; tel 406/723-3177 or 1-800/735-6814). The chain motels line the interstate, out on the "Flat." The efficient Best Western Butte Plaza , 2900 Harrison Ave (tel 406/494-3500 or 1-800/543-5814; $75-100), has good rooms, an excellent pool, steam room and gym, and generous continental breakfast; uptown, the historic Finlen Hotel , 100 E Broadway (tel 406/723-5461; $50-75), has rooms in the original 1920s building and a more modern annex. The Scott Inn , 15 W Copper (tel 406/723-7030; $75-100/$100-130), is a charming B&B in a historic old manor.Butte has plenty of good places to eat and drink , most of them uptown. The funky, friendly Blue Venus coffee house, 124 Main St, serves good espresso, light breakfasts and lunches, while Metals Banque , 8 W Park (tel 406/723-6160), offers tasty Tex-Mex in an old bank vault complete with enormous metal safe. More upscale, though still relatively informal, the Uptown Café , 47 E Broadway (tel 406/723-4735), serves fixed five-course gourmet meals, particularly strong on Mediterranean-style seafood. Savings on decor allow the roomy M&M Bar , 9 N Main St (tel 406/723-7612,) to serve the cheapest grease-laden breakfasts in town; it's also an atmospheric place for a beer. The Copper King Saloon , at 1000 S Montana St (tel 406/723-9283), is a lively place to spend an evening.
