Cape May: Eating
Cape May lacks the usual boardwalk snack bars, but it has plenty of cheap lunch places. Dinner , however, is far more expensive. If you're staying at a B&B, you can always fill up there with homemade goodies, and make do with bar snacks at night. Cape May's liquor laws are stringent, which means that many restaurants are BYO - call to check, and pick up some drinks at a liquor store before you eat.Bellevue Tavern 7-9 S Main St tel 609/463-1738. Gecko's Carpenter's Square Mall tel 609/898-7750. A good lunch stop with a tasty Southwestern menu and great desserts. Patio seating available.
The Lemon Tree 507 Washington St mall tel 609/884-2704. Good antidote to the twee coffee shops along the street, a cheap, cheerful deli where nothing's over $6; the cheesesteaks are Philadelphia-quality.
Louie's Pizza 7 Gurney St tel 609/884-0305. Fresh pizza opposite the beach from $10, or $2 per slice.
Mad Batter 19 Jackson St tel 609/884-5970. Splash out on international meals (baked clams in a tomato pesto sauce) served by candlelight in the garden, from $16. Lunch from $8.
