Taos: Eating, drinking and nightlife
Taos is too small to offer much nightlife , but it does have a fine selection of restaurants in all price ranges, and several coffee houses. If your main priority is to drink , the Adobe Bar in the Taos Inn is the coziest spot in town, while Eske's , a short way south at 106 Des Georges Lane (tel 505/758-1517), is a lively brewpub.Apple Tree Restaurant 123 Bent St tel 505/758-1900. Eclectic international café, based around a courtyard just north of the plaza, where the inexpensive menu ranges from Thai to Mexican.
Bent Street Deli & Café 120 Bent St tel 505/758-5787. Airy, partly outdoor place, just north of the plaza; good-value breakfasts, sandwich lunches, and tasty dinners for under $20. Closed Sun.
Caffe Tazza 122 Kit Carson Rd tel 505/758-8706. Trendy, central café with nice sunlit terrace, selling coffees and light veggie meals to students and assorted crazies. Next door to Taos Book Shop.
Doc Martin's Taos Inn , 125 Paseo del Pueblo Norte tel 505/758-1977. Delicious, inventive New Mexican food in romantic adobe inn, on the main road just east of the plaza. Most dinner entrees, such as piñon -crusted salmon or smoked lamb sirloin, are $16-23.
Island Coffees and Hawaiian Grill 1032 Paseo del Pueblo Sur tel 505/758-7777. Friendly, very inexpensive Hawaiian-themed café near the visitor center, serving Kona coffee plus noodle dishes, curries and sandwiches, and offering cut-rate internet access.
Outback in Taos 712 Paseo del Pueblo Norte tel 505/748-3112. Hard-to-find pizzeria, a mile north of town, with a welcoming youthful ambience and huge portions of great food - the $9 calzones are amazing.
