Several days each week, long before sunrise, hundreds of farmers from Long Island, the Hudson Valley and parts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey set out in trucks transporting their fresh-picked bounty to New York City, where they are joined by bakers, cheesemakers and others at greenmarkets .
