Location. The Porcupine, located in Saranac Lake, N.Y., is nestled in the high peaks of the Adirondacks. The city's Main Street, which offers shopping, galleries, restaurants and walking trails, is one-half mile from the inn. The property is seven miles from the Olympic village of Lake Placid, which offers ice skating, downhill skiing, spas and live entertainment.
Features. This historic inn was originally owned by poet Thomas Bailey Aldrich, and was built in 1902 and refurbished in 2003. The Porcupine offers views of the three-acre garden and mountains. Full, complimentary breakfasts, featuring Belgian apple nut waffles served with homemade whipped cream and fresh fruit, free-range eggs and Canadian bacon, are served each morning. The inn is equipped with complimentary wireless Internet access. Six fireplaces are featured in the common areas. An enclosed porch and deck patio overlook towering pine trees, and the patio's sunken gazebo contains an eight-person hot tub and heater. The basement includes a billiards lounge and an honor wine and beer bar. In-house massages, yoga and Pilates instruction, and concierge services are provided. Pets are not allowed at this property.

Tradition Adirondack styling is reflected throughout the accommodations with antiques, period photographs and local memorabilia. All guestrooms except the Mark Twain room feature cable television.
