Cincinnati's latest attraction is its
Museum Center
(tel 513/287-7000,
), housed in the magnificent Art Deco
Union Terminal
northwest of downtown, approached via a stately driveway off Ezzard Charles Drive. The restored lobby is absolutely stunning, complete with extraordinary mosaic murals and a Rookwood-tiled ice-cream parlor. Highlights of the
Museum of Natural History
are dioramas of Ice Age Cincinnati and "The Cavern," which houses a living bat colony. The
Historical Society
holds a succession of well-presented, short-term exhibitions, and the
Cinergy Children's Museum
has a two-story treehouse and eight other interactive exhibit areas (Mon-Sat 10am-5pm, Sun 11am-6pm; museums $5.50 each, any two $9, all three $12, with OMNIMAX $15). The museums are time-consuming, so it's best to get a combination ticket (valid for six months) and use it over two days.
