Cincinnati: Arrival, information and getting around

Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport (tel 859/767-3151) is twelve miles south of downtown, in Covington, Kentucky. Taxis to the city center (tel 859/586-5236) cost $24. The Greyhound station is on the eastern fringe of the center, just off Broadway, at 1005 Gilbert Ave. Amtrak trains arrive a mile northwest of downtown at the Union Terminal museum complex, which is on the daytime citywide Metro bus network (50¢; tel 513/621-4455). The best way to move between downtown Cincy and the sights across the river in Covington and Newport, KY, is via the South Bank Shuttle Tank shuttle bus , which picks up at Fountain Square in front of the Westin - and costs only 25¢. The city's taxis enforce a $3 minimum fare, though that will usually get you from downtown to most places of interest.

Cincinnati's main visitor center is at 300 W 6th St (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm; tel 513/621-2142 or 1-800/CINCY-USA; ); there's another - and perhaps more accessible - visitor center in Fountain Square, as well as information booths around Fountain Square and at 605 Philadelphia St in Covington (daily 10am-6pm; tel 859/655-4159).
