Columbus: Nightlife
Not long ago, Columbus was being tipped as "the next Seattle"; while that didn't happen, this youthful university town has a rich source of local bands , from country revivalists to experimental alternative acts. In addition to the German Village, the gay scene is concentrated in the Short North on and around North High Street, with a few additional bars and clubs downtown - the biweekly OUTlook has complete listings. On most summer Friday evenings there are free concerts in downtown Bicentennial Park on the Scioto River. Ludlow's 485 S Front St, Brewery District tel 614/341-7284. Pick of the more mainstream Brewery District venues with live bands Thurs-Sat.
Oldfield's On High 2590 N High St tel 614/784-0477. Predominantly collegiate campus bar with eclectic live music tastes.
Short North Tavern 674 N High St, Short North tel 614/221-2432. Oldest bar in the neighborhood; live bands at the weekend.
Union Station Video Café 630 N High St, Short North tel 614/228-3740. Popular gay video bar with a decent selection of appetizers and sandwiches, plus a pool table and internet access.
