Location. Located in Ashland, Ore., in the midst of an English country garden, this stately traditional Victorian home is less than a mile from the historic 93-acre Lithia Park. Sporting activities available nearby include fishing, golfing, hot-air ballooning and skiing. Ashland is also host to the Ashland Shakespeare Festival and Britt Music Festival.
Features. Tradition and elegance at The Winchester Inn are in perfect harmony with its surroundings. Gardens are scattered throughout the grounds. The quaint gazebo is a perfect site for small weddings and receptions. The rooms are a tribute to comfort and subtlety, with soft, warm shades and opulent furniture. The restaurant on site serves dinner for $12-$25. In the summer, food can be served outdoors. The inn's signature dish is Teng Dah Beef, a French Vietnamese dish of marinated filet mignon. A two-course breakfast is included with room rate. Breakfast is served from 8 a.m. 9:30 a.m.

Guestooms. The Winchester Inn offers 19 sumptuous guestrooms and suites, located in the Main House, Larkspur Cottage, Heritage House and Carriage House. All rooms have either a king or queen bed with a feather-top mattress and a private bath. Some rooms have bay windows, window seats, garden views, sitting areas, high-vaulted ceilings, balconies, French doors, sofa sleepers and antique claw-foot tubs. The Sunset Room has French doors that open onto a balcony. The Patio Room has a private entrance that opens onto a semi-secluded patio with a fountain. The Eastlake Room has a private entrance from the garden walkway. The deluxe Robert Gordon suite has French doors that open out to a garden walkway, and is wheelchair accessible. Outside the Peter Benjamin Room is a large deck with a fountain and gardens. Features of the private baths in the suites include a soaking tub, large walk-in shower, spa shower and one- or two-person jetted tub. All suites have a television and stereo, wet bar and/or honor bar, coffeemaker and fireplace.

Expert Tip. The new wine bar at the inn provides a tasting from local wineries and a special nightly wine flight.
