Location. Nestled on prestigious King's Hill in the southwest metro of Portland, Ore., this bed and breakfast is two blocks from Washington Park, home of famed Japanese and rose gardens. The city center is approximately one mile from the MacMaster House B&B, and 23rd Street shopping district, lined with blocks of boutiques, restaurants and art galleries, is an easy quarter-mile walk on foot.
Hotel Features. Overlooking Vista Avenue, the MacMaster House B&B, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, serves as a visual landmark to passer-bys in the King's Hill neighborhood. Constructed in the 1880s in the Queen Anne style, it underwent major renovations in 1905 when architects Whidden and Lewis enlarged and incorporated Colonial Revival elements, such as Doric columns and Palladian window with lead glass. A complimentary full breakfast is served on English Minton china in the dining room, and consists of such gourmet entrees as rice couscous, poached eggs with zucchini, and lemon and egg-white pancakes. This inn also features a sitting room, gardens and a sundeck.

Guestrooms. Each guestroom at the MacMaster House B&B is appointed with European antiques and linens, and hand-hooked wool or Turkish Kilim rugs. Guestrooms can have either private or shared bathrooms. Beds have down comforters and pillows. Each guestroom has its own small library, desk, dressing table, and reading chair. Cable televisions with VCRs and wireless Internet access are included. Some rooms have fireplaces. Rooms are located on the second or third floor with no elevator access.

Expert Tip. Guests who prefer the feel of bright lights in a big city need only trek east towards Broadway, where shops, dining, theater and nightlife abound. Accessible on foot, Broadway is home to the Portland Center for the Performing Arts, the Oregon Historical Society and Portland State University.

Leave the airport via the main airport boulevard.
Take I-205 S.
Take I-84 W until you reach the Willamette River.
At this juncture you must choose North or South.
Take I-5 N.
You'll pass the Rose Garden Arena on the left.
Take I-405 W.
Take the Vaughn Street exit.
There will be a soft right at the end of the bridge.
At the stoplight, take a left onto 23rd Ave.
When you cross Burnside Street, the street becomes Vista.
MacMaster House B&B is the second house on the right.
