Studenty Thayer Street is lined with inexpensive lunch places, almost all of which remain open until late. Wickenden Street is more alternative, and more expensive. Coffee Exchange 207 Wickenden St tel 401/273-1198. Trendy coffee bar. A popular meeting place for arty intellectuals. Deckchairs and barrels act as sidewalk seating and tables.
Davio's 11 Dorrance St tel 401/274-4810. An upscale place to dine on Mediterranean specialties and an Italian-inspired menu of steak and seafood. The wine list is impressive.
Kabob 'n' Curry 261 Thayer St tel 401/273-8844. Above-average Indian meals in trendy Thayer St.
New Japan 145 Washington St tel 401/351-0300. Reasonably priced Japanese place, with sashimi six days a week and sushi on Sunday.
