Alexandria: Practicalities

Alexandria has the distinct advantage of being on the Washington DC metro line, making it easy to reach from the city. For that reason few tourists choose to stay here; should you decide to, however, there is the usual range of major hotel chains, located mostly on the outskirts, such as the Days Inn Landmark , 110 S Bragg St (tel 703/354-4950 or 1-800/329-7466, ; $75-100). The friendly visitor center is located in the town's oldest house at 221 King St (tel 703/838-4200, ) and can provide a useful walking itinerary map, as well as all the usual tourist information. There is no shortage of places to eat - try the tasty seafood at Fish Market , 105 King St (tel 703/836-5376), or the New Orleans-style Creole fare at Two-Nineteen , 219 King St (tel 703/549-1141).
