Location. The Applebutter Inn is located approximately three miles east of downtown Woodstock, Vt., in the peaceful hamlet of Taftsville. The inn less than one-half mile from the Ottauquechee River and the Taftsville Covered Bridge, one of the oldest covered bridges in Vermont. The Billings Farm and Museum and the adjacent Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park are four miles from the inn.
Features. Built in 1854, this gabled Federal home occupies a spot on the National Register of Historic Places. Healthy gourmet breakfasts, including the inn's namesake and signature item of homemade apple butter, are served each morning. Afternoon tea is served on the porch, which overlooks the inn's private lawn and gardens. The tranquil setting of the Applebutter Inn is enhanced by a babbling brook on the grounds. The home is decorated with soft traditional colors, original stenciling, wide pine floors and Oriental rugs. The inn's front parlor includes a fireplace and library. A Mason & Hamlin grand piano complements the music room. The innkeepers operate an antique shop and a country store on site. Pets are not allowed at this property.

Guestrooms. Guestrooms at the Applebutter Inn offer beds with pillowtop mattresses, down comforters and/or designer linens. The Jonathan Room features a four-poster acorn bed, and the Pippin Room offers an 1830s antique bed. All units include private bathrooms. Accommodations are equipped with high-speed Internet access. Most guestrooms offer views of the garden or barn. Fireplaces/stoves are provided in four of the units. All accommodations are equipped with air conditioning.

Expert Tip. The citizens of Woodstock are the proud owners of four church bells fashioned by Paul Revere, whose success as a Boston craftsman is less well-known than his infamous "midnight ride."
