The main landmark of Yellowstone's Tower and Roosevelt areas, east of Mammoth Hot Springs, is Mount Washburn , one of the park's highest peaks, whose lookout tower can be reached by an enjoyable all-day hike or a grueling cycle ride. A more manageable trail leads down to the spray-drenched base of Tower Fall . From Tower Junction, US-212 wanders away east through the meadows of serene Lamar Valley , where moose and buffalo graze, toward the ice-packed peaks of the Beartooth Mountains .
