Jackson: Arrival, information, tours and activities
Jackson's airport is actually within the national park, eight miles north; it's linked to town by the All Star Transportation van service (tel 307/733-2888; $8 one-way), while the regular taxi fare is around $20. Jackson Hole Express (tel 307/733-1719 or 1-800/652-9510) operates two direct shuttle services daily between the international airport in Salt Lake City and Jackson (around 5hr; $47 one-way); pick-up and drop-off in Jackson is at the MiniMart beside Burger King on West Broadway.Jackson's excellent Wyoming Information Center , 532 N Cache St (daily: summer 8am-7.30pm; rest of year 9am-5pm; tel 307/733-3316, ), has detailed statewide information. Nearby, the Bridger-Teton National Forest Headquarters , 340 N Cache St (Mon-Fri 8am-4.30pm; tel 307/739-5500), has details of hiking and backcountry camping.
Transport around Jackson Hole is provided by START buses (tel 307/733-4521, ), which also run to Teton Village, twelve miles northwest. The visitor center has racks of leaflets detailing bus tours of Jackson and the parks: Gray Line, 330 N Glenwood St (tel 307/733-4325 or 1-800/443-6133), will pick you up at your hotel and take you through either Teton or Yellowstone park on a brisk one-day drive for $60. Guided bike tours in the area are run by Teton Mountain Bike Tours (tel 307/733-0712 or 1-800/733-0788), and cost $55 for a half-day tour including equipment.
Dozens of companies in Jackson offer float trips and whitewater rafting on the Snake River (half-day around $35, full-day $60).
